Yes, it's that simple. It's a fact of life that EVERYONE needs to make money. So what's your point? Even charities need to make money to support themselves. Making money does not exclude actually trying to make their customers happy. In fact, you NEED to make customers happy or your business dies.
Sorry that it scare you.

My point is that there are plenty of game companies who would take the kind of experience Anet folks have and pay them double. There are plenty of games out there more profitable than Guild Wars at the moment, and a few in development right now that will, without question, be more profitable than GW ever was.
Explain to my why they aren't working there?
That's the definition of 'oppritunity cost'. If you understood that term, you wouldn't have bothered to reply the way you did because I already said you were right. You're not really contributing anything to the discussion by reminding people of that. Unless your point is 'stfu talking about this is pointless' in which case why are you even wasting your time trying to troll? This isn't a train of thought, it's a pointless dismissal.

And unless people are spamming chat, I don't see any reason why it should be a cause for concern that people aren't using the tool as much.

In some ways I think its pretty rediculous that people dont use search. For most things it would be way more efficient. I at least make it a point to check search first for the the few who do use it.
But it does have its flaws, main one being that its text restrictions are too great. If search had the same max length as chat it would be much better, and while many would be too lazy to change, I think a lot more would use it.
Another thing that needs to be fixed is that the search feature should also include the time the party started searching in the list. That would alleviate one of the main fears people currently have with the search feature: With chat, you KNOW they are looking now. With search, for all you know its some wack AFK'er whos had their party in the search box for the past hour. If the search feature had a counter telling you how many minutes have passed since each party started advertising in it, that would be very helpfull as well.

But hey, you made me happy! Now I know that retards that spam chat are trading items at reasonable prices, that's a lot better!
The problem is I don't want to buy from them
The problem is I switched trade channel off to don't see this kind of crap

Lolz, where did you get that? GuildWiki? GW.com?

Therefore, don't go there if you're not a trader, and don't complain that your LFG message gets lost in the shuffle.

Any more suggestions where can I or can't I go? But hey, no problem, move all the npc-s from Kaineng Center to Shing Jea Monastery and I will never visit Kaineng again, and you can trade there til you die

Spam in allchat in other districts is annoying, yes, but I generally don't see enough of it to really be disruptive, or to complain about.

Yep, that's interesting- when I switch general chat off then it's not disruptive... how nice
And 1 question- where are you selling your stuff? General or trade channel?

qft, right up until you get to the Great Temple of Balthazar. At that point, you realize that a lot of FPS idiots like to play GW PvP. Still not as bad, but still bad enough.
So far, my two favorite arguments are "I don't use the party search because no one uses it" which is retarded on too many levels (guess what? YOU are someone), and "I spam the all chat because people turn off the trade chat" which to me tells me that the seller doesn't get the point.

I also love the argument: "It's okay to cuss and say racist things because there's a language filter."
I guess the next time I break into someone's house, I'll say it was okay because there was a lock on the door....

It's not without irony the link between the title of this topic and the content within.
Every thread I read in this forum is populated by know-alls who love to put down others in a sneering, self-satisfied way. The general behaviour around GWGuru Forum is that someone will come onto the forum and just post from the heart, saying what they like about the game or something they would like to see in it - maybe even something that they don't like.
Then, within minutes, the usual people are queuing up to kick them for their opinions, in a rude and disrespectful way. This is possibly the rudest and most unpleasant forum I have seen; it doesn't seem to be moderated in any meaningful way and seems infested with people who basically think everyone in the whole world except them is a n00b, and anyone who has a different point of view is a retard and must be humiliated in an arrogant way.
If you need any proof, just read through this thread or some of the recent ones on GW2.
I am sure I will be attacked now - and, before anyone says it, I have the choice not to use the forum but prefer to do so because having a dialogue about the game is important to me and I like to read Gaile's posts.
AND - I do always try to use Party Search - it needs some tweaking though to be more popular. A lot of the answers are in the posts above I think. It's just a shame that, like every other GWG thread, you have to filter through personal attacks to read it.

Nice onee Torqual, I whole heartedly agree. It's the reason I don't post much. This forum is 50% off topic, 20% whining, 20% namecalling, and a meager 10% actually useful info, so it seems.
Best new example are those magazine info threads. Last time I checked there were 70+ pages or so, with nothing but disrespectful, ignorant or downright rude comments, and a lot of useless speculation. If you filter all that, you get 5 pages of actually good info.
Nobody bothers to read previous posts, or use forum search, and we get the same questions over and over again.

Maybe it's my eyes, but scanning all those consecutive lines of pink text is tough. The breaks of white text in between actually helps me see the pink text better. And unfortunately, your trade spam is going to be noticed more if you spam it in both colors. Multicolor spam is just more effective. All the powertraders know this :P
I've resigned myself to that fact that people will continue to use both local and trade chat for their trading needs in the first few districts of LA, Kaineng, and Kamadan. For the most part, trying to do anything else in there, like form a group is rarely successful. I've never seen a successful attempt at getting the local channel spam to stop. But it is fun to watch someone try
I use the search function but it usually doesn't do any good. So I guess I'm a rude bastard

You have GOT to be kidding me... sorry I stopped reading when I came to this, But give me a break... Its IMPOSSIBLE to use chat for finding a party. Period. There is too much spam as it is. to the point that all chat is 100% useless.
I use party search to join up with guildies and alliance members quickly... since hardly anyone else uses it...
It was suppose to help with the spam instead it only made it worse... I use it for what I can but truth be told no one was ever willing to try anythign new in protest of not getting their precious auction house. I hate HATE! the WTS WTB spam. To the point I have forever disabled all chat and trade channel in the game. If there is no Party in the search function and no one in the alliance that wants to do the mission or quest, I simply do it alone.
I don't like that, and indeed its against every instinct to do like that. but I have no choice in the matter. there is NO ONE that can say the spam level in the game is acceptable. Not when the text screen scrolls at a rate of 15 to 20 lines a sec. Even anet staff says OFTEN the Spam level in the game is unbearable to deal with as it is.

Welcome to the world of forums.
Everyone here is free to voice their opinion as long as it's within Guru rules. Yes, some people are more "vocal" and yes half the time they are self made "know it alls" but they give an honest opinion and a decent discussion once in a while.
No other forum is any different. Now, less ranting, more useful posts.

A perfect example of what I am talking about. Thanks for the illustration.
Let's deconstruct it, shall we?
"Welcome to the world of forums." Yep, start with the patronising put-down.
< body text >
"No other forum is any different." Know-it-all-ism par excellence....
"Now, less ranting, more useful posts." Simultaneously dismissing my input and telling me what to do. What's contradictory is that you say everyone is free to voice their opinion and then you - a moderator - tell me 'less ranting, more useful posts'. So which is it? Do I need to check my posts with you first to get a certificate of usefulness? Or can I express my opinions?
....overall this is a by-the-numbers GWGuru response. You must have been using this forum a while if you now consider this type of post to be normal netiquette.
I use, and moderate, plenty of other forums, and don't need you to educate me on how wrong I am, thank you all the same.

EVERYTHING Gw/Anet does is half ass-d, they give you the weapons you want, but give you a suckerpunch to make it worthless, they add features we ask for that are not worth using. Whomever is in charge of QC should be fired.
As for "Welcome to forums" I say this. I build design and run boards for many large companys that have regular people as members. They do not condone the type of attitude that is rampant here. The big difference in how they run their site and how this site is run is due to one thing. Budget, Guru needs every penny their ads can bring in to keep going. Hopefully they see a profit but judging from the slow server times I doubt it, or they'd spend it on faster servers. This does not mean I condone the attitude many get away with here, it just comes down to the guru staff having lives outside the board and game and can only do so much. They undoubtedly work and pay bills like the rest of us, and cannot live here like many trolls do. If they were to ban every loud mouth troll here, the board would probably run faster but they would lose money due to lower pageviews, and less ROI.

I never understood it either. It was a major update that I was very excited for, spamming is not as efficient, but it seems everyone gets stuck on it. Might have been its late inception, but I try to get things going using it, telling people in each city to use it, since it is more efficient imho.

It's more of a hassle for a lot of the spammers. Also spammers usually spam about 20 things they are selling. In the party search, you are supposed to type in your message, scroll to trade, then hit party search, and wait. How bout being able to set up your own little auction house within the party search bar? Would make things a lot easier.

Amen, Brother, Amen - I wholeheartedly agree with this and your post #56 as well: seems there are a few of “the regulars” that do lay in wait to spit out their hackneyed one-liners. I do recall that when Guild Wars was very new that the community, both in-game & in this forum, had much more of a cooperative spirit. In the past almost two years, I've noted the absence of quite a few former forum members that actually posted constructively and with a modicum of common courtesy – conversely, I’ve noted a marked rise in hostility both in-game and on the forums: that’s a big reason why I’m looking forward to the freshness of GW2.
More on topic, I’m not so sure that not using the party search function is disrespectful to the developers, but I believe it can be hurtful to the gamers: asking for this feature to be added, then having it be largely unused, will cause the developers to place much more consideration into listening to the community’s voice in the future. Perhaps the party search feature would be used more if it were the only way to add someone to a party.
I too, am tired of the "all chat" channel gibberish and have taken to turning it off most of the time. These days, I usually find my parties through my guild or supplemented with heroes and henchmen.
